The opportunity
Jesmond Community Preschool had a clear vision: to create outdoor spaces where children could explore, play, and learn surrounded by nature.
In Stage 1, they needed to make better use of their outdoor area - adding safe, creative spaces to support play-based learning. After a successful first stage, the preschool partnered with Coverite Projects again to bring Stage 2 to life, expanding and enriching the outdoor experience even further.
How we helped
In Stage 1, we designed and built custom timber platforms and seating, turning a simple yard into an imaginative learning space. The focus was connecting children with nature, offering places to climb, sit, and explore safely.
For Stage 2, we took it up a notch! The new space features:
- A bright, inviting cubby house for creative role-play
- A landscaped sandpit for sensory fun
- A nature walkway to spark adventure
- Colourful murals that brighten the space and inspire young imaginations
Every element was designed to encourage hands-on learning, social play, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
The outcome
Our team took on the challenge of rejuvenating Jesmond Community Preschool's outdoor environment.
We meticulously designed and installed custom seating and engaging timber platforms, which harmonised with the natural surroundings. Our approach was to create a secure, interactive space that sparked imagination and learning through nature play.
The result was a seamless integration of the outdoor landscape with the preschool's educational philosophy, providing children with enriching, sensory play experiences.
This rejuvenation has not only catered to the client's vision but also offered the staff a versatile space to innovate in teaching, while gifting the community with a revitalised outdoor haven that celebrates learning amidst nature.
