2026 Ageing Australia QLD State Conference Key Takeaways
Coverite Projects recently joined the 2026 Ageing Australia Queensland State Conference, joining more than 50 exhibitors and hundreds of delegates across three days of discussion on the future of aged care.
The conference opened with addresses from senior sector leaders, followed by a Welcome to Country and song blessing. National and state perspectives followed, with addresses touching on shared goals for the sector and the priorities of government for older Queenslanders, setting the tone for two days of honest conversation about reform, funding and what genuinely good ageing looks like.
Building for a financially sustainable future
For a design and construct partner working in aged care, several threads stood out. A panel on the future of aged care asked what a trusted, equitable and financially sustainable system could look like by 2030, questions that sit close to the decisions providers make about where and how they build.
A session on financial sustainability under reform echoed a conversation we have often with clients: cost control and de-risking are no longer optional extras in aged care development, they are central to viability.
Designing for workforce and connection
Workforce was another consistent theme, from a session on developing future leaders to a live polled discussion on workforce priorities. Spaces that support staff wellbeing and retention are as much a design consideration as resident amenity.
The closing session on a co-housing model in Queensland, and the broader focus on connection and belonging throughout the two days, reinforced something we hold close: well-designed spaces can directly reduce social isolation and support people to thrive as they age.
