St Ezekiel Nursing Home engaged with Coverite Projects to prepare a 5 year masterplan for the extension and refurbishment of their aged care facility in Croyden. 

The 1880’s original federation house, which was once home to former Australian Prime Minister George Reid, while not heritage listed, demanded a certain level of respect and consideration in the revitalization of the facility.  The federation style being a quintessential part of the Australian Architectural Vernacular, it was agreed by both parties at an early stage that the house was to be retained in it’s original state as much as possible and ultimately restored to it’s former glory with careful consideration of colour and material selection.

Internally, the design focusses on the removal of all shared bedrooms and ensuites and the rationalization of the floor plan layout, creating 3 distinct residential houses and restoring an internal courtyard which had been covered over. 

Stage 1 of the project was completed in 2022.  Ongoing stages will see Coverite assisting the client with a funding application and further design, documentation and approvals as the team work towards full realization of the master plan over the coming 5 years.
