Building Future Hospitality Leaders: A Commercial Kitchen for NSW Students and Community
Hands-On Hospitality
Coverite Projects designed and built a commercial kitchen at this NSW school, creating a hands-on training space where students can gain real hospitality experience and work towards formal qualifications. The school plans to offer on-site TAFE and vocational education courses, extending opportunities to students and the wider community.

The opportunity
With a growing interest in vocational education and hands-on learning experiences, this NSW school recognised a need to provide students with real-world opportunities in the hospitality industry. The goal was to create an on-campus space that would mirror a professional kitchen environment, equipping students with essential skills and preparing them for future careers in hospitality. The space would support students in attaining formal qualifications, such as a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, and offer accredited TAFE and Vocational Education Training (VET) courses within a supportive school setting.
Beyond benefiting its own students, the school aimed to develop a unique learning hub that would be accessible to the wider community. By offering TAFE and VET courses on-site, the school could extend educational opportunities to local residents interested in gaining industry skills. This project not only required meticulous planning and design but also a construction approach that would align with the school’s standards and broader community goals.
How we helped
Coverite Projects partnered with the school to bring their vision to life through a full Design and Construction (D&C) process. The Coverite team collaborated closely with school administrators and hospitality educators to understand the technical and functional requirements of a commercial kitchen. Our approach focused on designing a safe, industry-standard kitchen layout tailored to both educational and community use, ensuring the facility adhered to all relevant hospitality and food safety regulations.
Throughout the project, we managed every detail - from concept development and design approvals to construction and final handover. This holistic approach allowed the school to rely on our expertise for each step, reducing the typical stress and coordination burden for school staff. The design process prioritised functionality, flow, and adaptability, creating an immersive environment that mirrors a real commercial kitchen and supports both student learning and community access.
The outcome
The newly completed commercial kitchen stands as a testament to the power of purpose-driven design in educational environments. The space has become a central feature of the school’s vocational education offerings, allowing students to gain practical skills and formal qualifications without having to commute to an external facility. Additionally, the school is now positioned to offer TAFE and VET courses on-site, welcoming members of the wider community to pursue training in a professional setting.
The facility’s design not only meets industry standards but has exceeded expectations in providing an authentic, hands-on culinary experience. Students and community members alike now have the opportunity to interact with commercial-grade appliances, prepare meals under real-time constraints, and experience the pace of a working kitchen, aiding them in smoothly transitioning into roles within the hospitality sector.
By delivering this project, Coverite Projects has enabled the school to offer new pathways for success, supporting both educational and community needs while reinforcing our commitment to creating spaces that drive positive impact.
